Free energy has been a dream for a long time. People have been chasing the idea of pulling power out of thin air for over a hundred years now. Wouldn't it be nice if your house ran on nothing at all? No bill, no wires, no smoke.
Some folks talk about magnets. Other folks talk about water. And other folks talk about the sun and the wind, which is pretty much already free if you set it up right. The trick is making the gear cheap enough to be worth it.

Some people use the term to mean energy that costs nothing once the equipment is paid off. Other people use it to mean energy from a machine that breaks the laws of physics. Those are two very different things and you should be careful which one a person is selling you.
Solar panels on a roof are about as close to real free energy as most folks will get. After the panels go up, the sun does the rest. The same goes for a small wind turbine if you live somewhere windy.
